This past weekend was the 25th annual Symphony on the Lake at Chetola Resort. The symphony has been one of the main attractions for summers in Blowing Rock for quite some time and more recently it has been a favorite event for those at Blue Ridge Mountain Club (BRMC). It is always exciting to see the lavishly decorated tents and some of the wacky costumes that people don for the evening. The delicious food and beverages are always a plus as well. All in all it was a great evening with something for all in attendance. The Harris Brothers dazzled everyone with a great set to open and a fantastic fireworks display rattled Blowing Rock to put a crescendo on the evening.
On Saturday we had a wonderful day of events at BRMC. We started off with a delicious BBQ lunch at Watson Gap followed by a brief Fire Safety Training Demonstration where our members were able to get some hands-on experience using a fire extinguisher. This sort of training can be invaluable when faced with a situation in real life. The acronym P.A.S.S. has been etched into my memory for how to use an extinguisher. Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep are 4 simple steps that can save your belongings and your life.
After the demonstration our members split into groups and headed out on a geocaching adventure where GPS, compass, and some clues were used to find buried treasure on the BRMC property. People also had the chance to take UTV’s on our West Ridge Trail for some off road adventure. It was a gorgeous day at BRMC and the perfect time to explore on foot or by vehicle and cool off in the shade of the trails.
That evening we had cocktails, and a great meal at Watson Gap Park while being serenaded by Klee and Mike who played for nearly 4 hours as BRMC partied into the night. Take a look at the pictures from the event on our Facebook page.
