The Blowing Rock Farmers Market has returned. A weekly event throughout the summer, the Farmers Market is a welcomed sight for visitors and residents alike. It is a chance to meet, greet and purchase farm-fresh fruits, veggies, flowers and meats. Blowing Rock is behind supporting local businesses and local farm; it’s a great way to see where and from whom you are getting these great, organic products.
The location has changed slightly this year but the great products and service have not. Patrons can now find the market a little closer to Main Street and less tucked away. It’s now located on Price Street, near the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and Police Department.
I stopped by and briefly chatted with a few of the vendors who said what a pleasure it was to have this opportunity to present the products of their hard labor to people and encourage support of local business and sustainability. Among the vendors are the Pasta Wench who sells, you guessed it, home made pasta and dough; Harmony Acres Soap Company selling homemade organic and environmentally friendly soaps; Bella Rooster Garden and Gourmet who have delicious jams and jellies; and Mountain Memories Farm with hormone and antibiotic-free lamb, chicken, free range eggs and beef.
If you are around Main Street on Thursday afternoons looking for the freshest food around (even if you are all set with groceries), I highly recommend taking a stroll through the market.
